This album is a conscious effort on my part, to make some “ambient ‘space guitar’” recordings, inspired particularly by the early-1970s “kozmische Muzik” of artists such as Tangerine Dream (especially their early LPs “Alpha Centauri” and “Zeit”) and Klaus Schulze (mainly “Irrlicht”, but also “Cyborg”). If this were on vinyl, it would definitely be a double-LP: the first such work I have ever recorded.
Please be clear from the outset: whilst there is progression and evolution in these pieces, by the nature of the “ambient” genre, they are expansive, drifting and not especially “active”. Frankly: if you are seeking three-minute songs and pyrotechnic guitar solos, this may not be the album for you… if you’re familiar with “Zeit” by Tangerine Dream, or Brian Eno’s longer-form works like “Music For Installations”, that’s basically the nature of what awaits you here.
You may be interested to learn that (a) these four pieces were improvised and recorded in one pass and in real time, with no subsequent overdubs and only minor sonic "rebalancing"; and (b) every single sound you hear in these 75 minutes or so, began as an electric guitar: there is not a note of “conventional” synthesiser anywhere here. Yes, the guitar signal gets warped, processed, deconstructed and remodelled to considerable lengths, but everything ultimately comes from a vibrating metal string. Believe it or not, this is a “guitar album”, if mainly in the literal (and possibly technical) sense.
I would like to make special mention of one inspiration for this album’s title: the iPad application “SpaceFields” by developer Igor Vasiliev, which provides much of the sound-warping and deconstructive effects that provide the “backbone” of the pieces on this collection. Many thanks Igor :-)
Have a good voyage…

Recorded on portable equipment on his holidays around England in 2003-06, the former frontman of Hefner delivers a fine set of lo-fi "folktronica" vignettes, with his customary observational eye. TA Walker
Decades after Elizabeth "Connie" Converse (1924-?1974) vanished without a trace, the enigmatic songs she wrote and recorded in the 1950s finally found an audience. Of their era, yet somehow timeless. TA Walker
