This is my entry for the 2020 National Solo Album Month (NaSoAlMo) Internet challenge - i.e. to compose and record, from scratch and completely solo, at least 29 minutes of new and original music entirely between 1-30 November. This is my sixth completed NaSoAlMo album, joining others including "45" (2017 - I recommend the "Special Remix Edition"!) and "Catherine Wheel" (2016).

"Elliptical Orbit" is my first guitar-orientated instrumental project since "Lifecourses" in 2012, and the first since "Gateway Suite" (2010) to be based around live guitar-looping. Unlike the entirely-live "Gateway", the tracks here mostly feature overdubs; however, all of the pieces here are founded on guitar/live-electronics loops created and developed in real time during recording. (For what it's worth: "Program III" is a one-pass live performance, with no subsequent overdubs made.)

Every sound you hear on this album, is guitar-originated (via various levels of processing and remodelling), and only one track - the "Hyperspace" section of "Explorer Suite" - features "traditional" MIDI guitar-synth. The BOSS SY-1 Synthesizer pedal is responsible for a fair amount of what you hear - for example, the "Program" pieces all begin from the SY-1's "arpeggiator" presets - but I also processed the device quite a bit further, so the sounds may not always be recognisable as the SY-1's.

This album slews towards ambient and "soundscapes" rather than guitar "pyrotechnics" (which aren't really my forte anyway!), so as long as you're cool with that... hope you enjoy these pieces, and happy astronauting!
