about

My first “guitalele song” of FAWM 2014, and song 2 is unlikely to be the last such entrant from me… Yamaha’s Spanish guitar/tenor ukulele hybrid remains one of my favourite musical purchases of the last few years - I think it has a great sound, it’s easily portable, records well and is generally a handy “go-anywhere” instrument for song-smithery wherever one finds oneself.

This is also the first of my FAWM 2014 songs to be recorded mostly in my car at lunchtime (I get the idea I’m not alone in this time-maximising tactic!). With my iPhone, the Multitrack DAW app and TASCAM iM2 “dock-connector” mike, I laid down two guitalele parts, two vocals and percussion (see if you can guess what I was tapping), with only bass guitar being overdubbed later at home.

Owing to an evening commitment, I didn’t have time to mix the track in Logic Pro as I wanted to, so this is a rough mix done in MDAW.

lyrics

That day I’ll always treasure
My pulse a rollercoaster ride
As I recall, you started it
And I don’t mind

That walk along the river
The kiss that halted time
As I recall, you started it
And I don’t mind

[chorus]
We take the rainy afternoons
And mornings in the sun
And make a day to share
Of every one

That difference of opinion
This morning, knocked off track
I’m sorry that I started it
I’ll make it back

We take the rainy afternoons...

As I travel through advancing years
I’d rather walk with you
It’s no concern who started it
We’re two
