50/90 Challenge song 34: a bit behind schedule, but I've all but given up on reaching "the big Hawaii" by now, so the songs come when they come...

I've been listening to some quite "autumnal" singer-songwriters over the last couple of days, particularly Nick Drake and Tim Buckley - "Happy Sad" is a contender for my "desert island albums" list, and Lee Underwood (Buckley's lead guitarist) has been a notable influence on my own solo electric guitar style over the years.

You might, then, pick up more than a little Buckley influence in this song, not least because I recorded it here with my Seagull S12 12-string acoustic (which I've not had as much opportunity to use during this 50/90 as I'd like). The 12-string and vocal were captured first on my wife's Yamaha Pocketrak stereo recorder - she's going to get it back soon! - then I loaded the recording into my multitrack and added electric guitar and bass.

lyrics

Perched on a reed
That only bends
Iridescent, bluer than the sky
Two stained-glass windows
So crystal clear
To catch the breezes, and you fly

[chorus]
Hunter of the pool
Explorer of the air
Chaser of the summer's day

Living just for days
Then fly away
Here for a season, soon to pass
From green to brown
And blue to grey
A life as fleeting as the grass
