Thought I'd kick off my FAWM 2013 with song 1 (good move): a jangly driving rock-y-type number, about getting back out on tour after a long lay-off, and hoping you can still "do your thing". Not that I tour, but it was fun imagining it all...

The demo was recorded in Multitrack DAW on an iPod Touch (4th-gen) with TASCAM iU2 audio interface - I'm planning to do all the demo-tracking (if not the mixing) on an iOS device, to see what's possible in that area in 2013 (and because I can, darn it!).

The drum machine loop (Linn) came from FunkBox - I wish I could've been more creative with the drums, but maybe another time! The only snag I hit during recording, was when I tried to record the bass guitar into MDAW via JamUp Pro XT (guitar/bass amp modelling/FX app) and Audiobus, and the strain almost made the iPod go up in a puff of smoke... my trusty Behringer BDI21 bass pre-amp pedal saved the day. The electric guitars were both modelled by my Roland VG-8 - sadly, I don't have a REAL Rickenbacker 12-string :-(

Not a bad song to kick off with IMHO, though I REALLY would like to record it properly one day, if possible with a decent band (or at least a rockin' drummer)... but that's FAWM for you!

lyrics

The last tour that you played
It ended last July
Off-track, time to kick back
Look for patterns in the sky
Now the crowds call your name again
From St Ives to Whitley Bay
Your transport’s here, so you concentrate
On remembering how to play

[chorus]
You’ve had your rest, it’s time to rise, get
Back on the bus
The road ahead, new lands that lie
In wait for us
Won't get there by lying here
Back on the bus...

Your band has pitched their camp
And grass has grown beneath
Guy-ropes - they've got high hopes
Of a life like Mick and Keith
But the bills won't pay themselves this month
And your fans have waited long
So the roadie's brought the Transit round
And the highway starts its song

You've had your rest...

[bridge]
The glaring lights, adoring crowds await you
Your career has come to this - it's not too late to
Reach for the sky
