Going To The Tearooms

about

Well, poor old "Caspar" - my Makala Waterman clear-plastic soprano ukulele, has only had one outing this FAWM, so for song 13 I thought he deserved at least one more stint in the spotlight!

I recently discovered the English singer, ukulele player and banjoist Phil Doleman, a popular fixture on the uke-festivals circuit, who recently recorded a track for one of his EPs on a phonograph (wax-cylinder machine). I can't justify a trip to Sheffield to record this song with the phonograph specialists he used, so I had to resort to some slightly newer technology...

I'm going for a bit of a spoof of 1930s Noel Coward-style songs here, in case you wondered!

Recorded in one pass with "Caspar", into my iPhone 5S (AudioShare) via a Line6 Sonic Port VX, and then transferred to Audacity, where I processed the recording through iZotope's excellent (and at least recently, free!) Vinyl AU plugin, to get the "78"-like audio filtering and crackles/pops.

I enjoyed this one... but don't take it seriously!

lyrics

I'm going to the tearooms
For my usual Earl Grey
Perhaps, this time, Darjeeling
To form my pre-soirée
Where I may watch the world go by
With scones and clotted cream
And strawberry jam at 4pm
My daily dining dream

And furthermore, moreover
No plebs or oiks or proles
Shall spoil my afternoon repast
With munching sausage rolls
Their noxious whiff, their poor attire
And offensive repartee
Allow them entry if they must
But far away from me!
